The Place
The Purusha Capital sits on the crest of nearly 500 acres of wooded land near Romney, WV. This campus was selected by Maharishi and purpose-built for deep meditation and profoundly enlightening courses — every building being designed according to the principles of Maharishi Vastu architecture, oriented and proportioned to be in harmony with Natural Law, promoting inner peace and happiness.
The Capital hosts a spectrum of courses for men practicing the Transcendental Meditation (TM) program ranging from TM retreats for meditators, World Peace Assemblies for Sidhas, a Coherence Creating Course for those who wish to stay longer, and so much more. It is a place where you can step away from ordinary life, go deeply inward, and let the environment carry you forward.

Who Lives Here — And Why It Matters For Your Course
What makes the Purusha Capital unlike all other retreat centers is that it hosts its own permanent community. The Maharishi Purusha Program is a residential community of single men who live on site and are dedicated to practicing Maharishi’s technologies of consciousness…full time. Meditating together, every day, year after year, they are, in a very true sense of the word, the heart and soul of the place.
Course participants enjoy their own separate wing of the campus and follow their own schedule — and yet they step directly into the tangible coherence that the resident community has been quietly building for decades. It’s quite common for visitors to remark when they first arrive that they feel something special in the ‘air’ even before they get settled in.
You’ll be our guest, not as someone participating in the Purusha program but as someone enjoying the unique atmosphere they create , allowing you to dive deeper in your own practice and recharge your physiology with rest and vitality.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi founded the Purusha program in the early 1980s and personally oversaw the design of this Capital in the early 2000s. He described the role of the Purusha community as:

A Few Things You Might Notice — And What They Mean
The Purusha Capital has a particular feel — calm, warm, and quietly purposeful. A couple of small things you might notice when you arrive. Both have simple explanations.
Maharishi had a lifelong devotion to his teacher, Brahmananda Saraswati — whom he always called Guru Dev, meaning Supreme Teacher. He gave all credit for his teaching, and everything it produced, to the lineage he received it from. Jai Guru Dev — "glory to the supreme teacher" — was how he expressed that. When you hear it here, it's simply gratitude: offered warmly, and meant sincerely.
Maharishi had a lifelong devotion to his teacher, Brahmananda Saraswati, whom he always referred to as "Guru Dev," meaning Supreme Teacher. Maharishi ended every talk with the expression "Jai Guru Dev" — literally, "Glory to Guru Dev" — a humble expression of appreciation for his teacher and the knowledge Guru Dev bestowed upon him.
Maharishi gave full credit for all of his achievements to his teacher, and so "Jai Guru Dev" was heard quite often around him. He was so fond of the expression that he used it for everything — hello, goodbye, thank you, or simply an acknowledgment of someone. In this way, the phrase came to carry many meanings around Maharishi, but it always kept its basis in his humble appreciation for his teacher, Guru Dev.

No. The “Movement”that grew up around Maharishi as he traveled the world teaching Transcendental Meditation is comprised of tens of thousands of committed people of all faiths and non-faiths who appreciate the practical benefits of Transcendental Meditation and choose to participate actively in making that experience available for the betterment of other people and society. The Purusha program and the Purusha Capital are both non-denominational, and the TM technique and other technologies of consciousness taught and practiced here require no change in lifestyle or beliefs. They are scientific in that they are simple and systematic and produce effects that are measurable and repeatable. These technologies come from Maharishi and the Vedic tradition — one of the world’s oldest knowledge traditions. Hinduism shares roots in that same tradition, which is why some of the language and imagery here may be similar in that direction. None of it requires adoption. It's simply the origin of the knowledge.

Absolutely. The courses at Purusha Capital are open to any man practicing TM or the TM-Sidhi program. The resident Purusha community lives and practices here full time, and has chosen a single way of life — but that's their path, not a requirement for course guests. Many participants are married or partnered.

You’ll share the campus and have meals in the same building. The community is warm and welcoming to guests — but the course schedule has its own comfortable rhythm, separate from their full-time program.

All meals are vegetarian, freshly prepared, and nourishing. Dietary needs can be discussed with the course office ahead of arrival.

Weekend and multi-day courses are offered throughout the year and are a perfect way to experience the environment. From there, many people choose to return for longer stays.
